Cheat Sheet: Finding The Best Electric Smoker

These days, electric smokers are easy to come by, but they weren’t as smart or reliable as they are now. How can you get the best electric smoker available today? In our experience, we have found the profile of an electric smoker with the perfect features. These are the features we look for.

Cooking Space

One of the most important factors is smoking capacity or cooking space. You always want to check the space and height of a smoker. It should be big enough to cook the meats you like, such as whole turkeys, whole chicken, pork shoulder, brisket, and ribs. You ideally want a smoker with over 700 square inches of space.

In addition, the number of racks is also important. You want a smoker with removable racks, as well as a large grease tray and wood tray.

Temperature Control

Secondly, the temperature control and heating range must be reliable and have a high range. We like smokers that can go from 100 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, but you’ll find smokers that go up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit or more. This means that the smoker has a powerful heating element.

The large range makes it easier to smoke all kinds of meat and other food. You should be able to set up your temperature controls and timers easily, which is why they call them “set it and forget it” smokers.

The most convenient and best electric smokers also have digital temperature settings, and they should include an internal temperature probe. This ensures that you always have the right temperature for your smoked meat.

Ease of Use

The model of electric smoker you choose should have a user-friendly build that is simple and quick to operate. The temperature control panel, digital thermometer, and Bluetooth controls should be easy to control, so you can set your smoker even when you’re away.

In addition, the electric smoker should have handles and wheels to make it easy to move. The racks should be removable so you can make more space as you need. Compact electric smokers are lightweight and easy to move, but they also need to have a long cord, wheels, and high-quality construction materials.

Remote control Bluetooth smokers are the epitome of convenience. These allow you to set a timer for when to smoke so your meat is ready when you want it.

Finally, a wood chip loading system is preferable. This makes it simple to load any type of wood chips and start smoking. The tray should be big enough to handle large quantities.

Remote Control with Bluetooth

We wanted to expand upon this feature because it’s become incredibly popular with electric smoker brands. However, these Bluetooth features aren’t always incorporated for convenience. Rather some brands simply add it without adding the features like remote control and temperature monitoring that are important.

Remote control features with Bluetooth make it easy to monitor your barbecue and grill from your smartphone. You don’t have to stand next to the smoker to ensure that the meat is cooked perfectly. You can use your phone to adjust temperatures, internal lights, and check the internal meat temperature

Most smokers have a limited warranty of 1 to 5 years, but we always question a short limited warranty for an electric smoker. You want to get the longest possible warranty, and it should cover all parts and labor. Most of the issues with smokers come from the circuits, so these should be protected under the warranty.

Best Electric Smoker Reviews

We review three different types of electric smokers below. They are separated into the following categories:

• Bluetooth Electric Smoker
• Electric Smoker
• Compact Electric Smokers

Bluetooth Electric Smokers

These smokers have the latest technology and make it possible to monitor your smoked meats from afar using your phone.

Masterbuilt 20072115 Bluetooth Smart Digital Electric Smoker, 30-Inch

Masterbuilt is one of the top brands for electric smokers, so it was no surprise that we enjoyed how the 20072115 Bluetooth Smart Digital Masterbuilt Electric Smoker went above and beyond our expectations. The Masterbuilt electric smoker 20072115 has a large cooking space with 721 square inches and four racks. These are special racks coated in chrome and removable, so you can create the cooking space you need for the meat you a smoking. It also makes it easier to clean.

What We Liked

We believe this is the best electric smoker because of how easy and quick it is to use the Masterbuilt 20072115. It smokes meats extremely well, including a whole smoked turkey that came out perfect during our test.

This smoker took only seconds to get set up and ready for the first smoke. The chrome coated racks gleam and were easy to remove to fit our large turkey. It’s incredibly spacious and well-made.

The Bluetooth Smart Technology connects the smoker to your smartphone. We were able to hang out for an hour while checking on our smoke to see how well it was cooking. You can check the internal temperature and adjust the temperature with the app on your phone. The meat probe lets you know the exact temperature of the meat at any team.

When you need to move the smoker, there is a back-wheel design that makes it easy to tilt and maneuver wherever you would like to smoke. We found it to be lightweight and quick, making it one of the more mobile smokers we reviewed.

Overall, Masterbuilt offers a high-quality electric smoker where you can sit back, relax, and smoke any meat to your heart’s content. We fully recommend it,

What We Don’t Like

While we read plenty of reviews from customers, we found that the main long-term issue with this smoker is that it has some heat loss after about six months. The warranty coverage is only for 90 days.

Dyna-Glo DGU951SDE-D Two Door Digital Bluetooth Smoker, Silver

Dyna-Glo is another innovator in the electric smoker market. Dyna Glo smokers offer more convenience and cooking capacity than most other competitors. The Dyna-Glo DGU951SDE-D is another top pick after we experienced how easy it is to smoke meats with this electric smoker. It has one of the largest cooking spaces, and customers report that the Bluetooth signal is incredibly strong.

While it may seem strange for a smoker to have a strong Bluetooth signal, it’s imperative to capitalize on the convenience of an electric smoker. However, the Dyna-Glo smoker also has amazing cook technology.

The DGU951SDE-D has four chrome-plated steel racks that are easy to clean and remove. With a cooking space of 951 square inches, you can easily fit the largest of turkeys to smoke in this machine.

An internal meat thermometer keeps track of your meat within the Dyna Glo electric smoker while it cooks, and you can check the temperature on your phone. You never have to open the smoker to ensure that it’s cooking correctly. You can simply open the Dyna Glo smoker app and control the temperature with a tap of your finger.

With one push of a button or using your smartphone, you can start the cook. It has a separate wood tray that won’t ever cause heat loss either. The removable rib rack and sausage hooks also make it easy to cook other things beside whole turkeys and chickens.

What We Liked

Out of the smokers we researched and tested, Dyna-Glo has the largest cooking space. You can smoke large quantities of meat since the capacity goes all the way up to 951 square inches. This makes it easy to fit large racks of ribs, brisket, whole turkeys, and whole turkeys.

Once you connect to the Dyna Glo smoker app with Bluetooth, you can control the temperature and monitor the internal temperature as needed. It works with all smartphones and most tablets as well. Customers have stated that the signal range is quite strong, so you can hang inside your home and enjoy the game while your meat smokes.

The Dyna Glo electric smoker has a top quality steel build. The large window comes with a sun shade cover, and it’s easy to monitor your cook from afar. You never have to open the smoker to ensure that your meat is cooking either.

In addition, the Dyna Glo smoker is easy to clean! You won’t find much leftover because of the chrome-coated racks, but if there is any grease, you can simply remove the tray and give the smoker a wipe down. We were able to do it within minutes.

What We Don’t Like

It’s quite heavy and a little bit difficult to move the Dyna Glo electric smoker. This is because there is back wheel to this design. You may have a hard time getting the Dyna-Glo into the right position. The limited warranty does not cover as much as we like and only provides support for 90 days.

Masterbuilt MB20074719 Mes 140g Bluetooth Digital Electric Smoker, 40” Stainless + Window + BT

The Masterbuilt MB20074719 Mes is a large-scale smoker that is a little bit less than our top pick, but it has some of the same options. With Bluetooth Smart Technology, you can monitor and control the temperature of your meats through your smartphone or tablet. This Masterbuilt electric smoker is definitely targeted to those who want to set it and forget it.

This Masterbuilt electric smoker also includes one meat probe thermometer, but you can add on another since the smoker supports two. The Masterbuilt smoker app allows you to connect to your smoker and monitor the meat, as well as turn the smoker on or off. You can set the timer and get an alert when it’s ready. Your grandpa might shake his head at this convenience, but combining technology and barbecue is the ultimate way to get the perfectly cooked smokey turkey, chicken, brisket, and ribs.

The smoker is available in 30-inch and 40-inch models, so we definitely suggest upgrading to get the most cooking space. Both models come with removable, adjustable racks so you get the most room and organization to cook meats as well as slow roast vegetables or even make cheese.

The heating element in this Masterbuilt smoker also goes up to 1,2000 watts, but the max temperature is only 275 degrees Fahrenheit. However, another cool feature of this smoker is that you don’t have to open the smoker to add in wood chips. There’s a tray in the back that allows you to simply and swiftly add more wood chips as needed.

What We Liked

This Masterbuilt electric smoker is pretty huge and offers 975 square inches of cooking space. You can supply a whole group of people with food using this smoker. It has four racks to separate all of your meats, or you can remove these racks to make way for a whole turkey.

The Masterbuilt electric smoker also comes with a set of wheels, making it very maneuverable and portable. Back wheels make it swift to move wherever you want to barbecue.

Best of all, this smoker really works and does everything for you. We found our meat was cooked to the perfect temperature and had a delicious taste. The high-quality, lightweight construction also was quick to set up.

What We Don’t Like

We didn’t find any problems during our review of this Masterbuilt electric smoker, but some customers have reported that the Bluetooth and app don’t work as well as it should all the time. Some of these issues may have already been addressed as the app was recently updated.

Masterbuilt MB20076718 Bluetooth Electric Smoker 240G Digital, Black with SS Door

For full digital control, Masterbuilt offers the MB20076718 Bluetooth electric smoker with a control panel that allows you to adjust the temperature, timer, and lights. You can also monitor the temperature through the Bluetooth app just like most Masterbuilt models.

The main difference in this Masterbuilt electric smoker model is the age and LED digital control panel display, which is larger and colored blue. This model has the same four chrome-coated racks, and it’s a little bit smaller than the previous Masterbuilt we reviewed. You can still smoke whole turkeys and chickens. It holds about 16 chickens altogether or 8 racks of ribs.

The side wood chip loading system ensures no heat loss. It’s about 71.7 pounds, but it comes with wheels just like the other Masterbuilt smoker models.

What We Liked

We like how easy the Masterbuilt electric smokers are. The Masterbuilt MB20076718 is one of the more affordable units because it’s a little bit older, but it’s still almost as good as our top pick. The main difference is that this one is smaller in height and a little heavier. We found that it was still easy to maneuver around the yard, and it can cook whole turkeys.

This smoker does fit a lot of food inside, and it’s easy to organize everything. The insulated body of the smoker keeps everything well-heated, so you don’t have to worry about losing temperature. You don’t even need to open the door to load in wood chips.

As far as the app, you can use Bluetooth to control your Masterbuilt from afar. It has the same functions as the other models, so you can turn it on, set the timer, and control temperature while monitoring the internal temperature. If you set a timer, you’ll receive an alert when it’s time to check on your finished meat.

Overall, we found that this unit delivered a well-smoked turkey, but we did find that it took longer for the smoker to heat up than with the other versions.

What We Don’t Like

It was very slow to get started with this smoker. We saw that a few other customers had the same response about the temperature control on first start. However, once it reached the right temperature, it cooked just the same as the other Masterbuilt models.

Customers have reported issues with the Bluetooth not connecting with this Masterbuilt smoker. We urge anyone having these issues to talk to Masterbuilt. We were able to sit about 30 feet away and control everything from the app with no issues.

Electric Smoker

We want to look at some of the best electric smokers that may not have as advanced technology as Masterbuilt. While these may not include Bluetooth, the focus was really on the quality of the smoke and how reliable each of these electric smokers would be for a delicious final product.

Smokin-It Model #1 Electric Smoker

We can’t skip out on reviewing one of the most highly-rated electric smokers of all time. We took this opportunity to look at Smokin-It’s Model #1 Electric Smoker and see how well it functions in comparison to Masterbuilt and other smokers we reviewed.

The first thing that stands out about the Smokin-It Model #1 is that it has a solid steel construction. There is no glass pane, but it has a sturdy, reliable build with wheels, making it highly portable.

You can load up to 22 pounds of meat inside of the Smokin-It #1 so it’s perfect for barbecue parties. There are three stainless steel grilling racks included, as well as a drip pan and one-pound of hickory wood blocks.

It’s made from 18-gauge stainless steel, which is non-magnetic. It’s incredibly durable and most reviews we read in our research stated that this smoker lasted for many years with one customer stating they had been using the same smoker for over five years.

This model uses a rheostat to control temperature. You can regulate the inside temperature using this dial. You can fill it up and set the temperature, then walk away to find your meat completely smoked. It comes with a 400-watt heating element, and it’s fully insulated.

What We Liked

Everything is built to last and made to fit into a smaller package while still supplying enough room for whole smoked turkeys and chickens. The smoke box at the bottom holds the wood chips. Everything is proportionate and well-organized to deliver maximum efficiency without any heat loss.

This smoker is very easy to move. In fact, it was made to be extremely portable. That’s why it’s so lightweight and rides on four wheels. The rubber castors are thick and easily move over any kind of surface, even in thick grass.
The Smokin-It Model #1 also comes with a long 12-foot power chord to match its mobility. We found that the smoker was easy to clean. The lower parts of the smoker can actually be covered in foil for a quicker clean. The drip pan catches all the juices, but it can get messy to clean if you don’t use with foil.

Finally, we liked the length of this smoker’s manufacturer warranty. It comes with a 3-year warranty for parts and labor.

What We Don’t Like

While we really liked the convenience and lightweight build of this sturdy little smoker, there is no way to track the heat remotely. You can’t use Bluetooth with this or look in through the glass pane to check the meat. You really have to trust that the meat is cooking accurately, and we found that it was overall.

Masterbuilt MB20072718 Digital Electric Smoker 140S

Masterbuilt also created a remote control digital electric smoker that uses a radio frequency (RF) design. This is the Masterbuilt MB20072718 Digital Smoker. There are a number of features that come with this Masterbuilt smoker, including a glass pane door, remote control for temperature and timing, and wood chip loader.

Much of the Masterbuilt MB20072718’s design is similar to the other models that we have reviewed. It’s made to be convenient and easily set up to start smoking.

With a cooking space of 711 inches, you can cook whole turkeys, chickens, ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, whole husks of corn, and anything else you want to smoke.

Since this is an older Masterbuilt smoker design with an RF remote, it’s a bit more affordable if you want a large smoker that you can set and forget. It has the patented non-stick chrome-coated racks, as well as a wood chip loader.

What We Liked

It’s easy to control this Masterbuilt smoker with the remote. You can stand back and set the timer, turn it off and on, and control temperature easily. We found that it works just as well as the Bluetooth, but the range isn’t as far as the Bluetooth unites.

We were easily able to fit 20 pounds of meat inside of this smoker and have it organized completely within seconds. You don’t have to spend too much time loading wood chips in, as this also uses the patented side wood chip loader system.

The rest of the operation is hands-free. You can set up your remote control and just monitor the temperature from your living room.

Once finished with the smoker, clean-up is a breeze because the racks don’t get covered with any juices, and the drip tray can easily be removed and cleaned. It’s incredibly high-tech for being a couple years old.

What We Don’t Like

Some of the issues with this Masterbuilt include the wood chip loading size and warranty length. We wished that the wood chip loader in this model was a bit larger, as it got stuck trying to load in chips, which was a bit frustrating. In addition, these models also come with a shorter 90 day warranty.

Masterbuilt 20070210 30-Inch Black Electric Analog Smoker

For those who want an even more affordable and lightweight option, the Masterbuilt 20070210 30-inch Black Electric Analog Smoker may be the best choice. It comes with a large cooking space, high-powered heating elements, and a highly insulted smoking chamber to preserve all heat.

You can smoke and create all kinds of meats with this smoker. It’s adept at smoking whole turkeys as well as fish, sausages, and corn husks. While it’s not as big as the other Masterbuilt smokers we reviewed, you still get 548 square inches of cooking space with three chrome-coated racks. This is more than enough for family and small gatherings.

This smoker has a 1,500-watt heating element. It smokes evenly and efficiently without any need to add charcoal. The dual wall insulation also ensures that you don’t lose any heat, so your food cooks to the exact temperature precisely.

You can monitor the temperature using the gauge on the side of the door. You can check the interior temperature and make sure that it’s correct without having to open the door.

What We Liked

We were impressed with how lightweight and easy to move this smoker was. It’s also just incredibly efficient and smoked our meats with precision heat. We found our meats were perfectly cooked despite not being able to monitor from a distance.

This smoker was made to be smaller and more affordable so there are few features missing, but overall, this smoker is easy to set up and load. You don’t have to worry about not being able to fit your turkeys inside due to the 548-square inch cooking space, but you may not be able to fit all the meats at the same time with just 3 racks.

What We Don’t Like

In comparison to some of the other smokers on our list, this one is the best because of its price. If you are on a budget and need a high-quality no-fuss electric smoker, this one definitely delivers, but you don’t have any of the conveniences included with the other Masterbuilt models.

Since this is an analogue smoker and it comes with a front-load wood tray, you may have to open the door to check on meats at some point. We avoided doing this by measuring out our wood chips for our smoked turkey, and we got beautiful results despite not being able to check our meats during the cook.

Compact Electric Smokers

In this final category, we look at some of the most mobile and lightweight electric smokers. These are especially useful for taking to tailgating parties, camping trips, and other adventurous travels or cooking events. We chose the smokers with the best features, ratings, temperature control, and best results.

Masterbuilt 20073716 Portable Electric Smoker

Without all of the other Bluetooth features and fancy LCD screens, you get the Masterbuilt 20073716, which is a fully portable and extremely lightweight electric smoker. It only weighs about 22 pounds, yet it has a large capacity inside, and it comes with a removable chip tray.

This smoke was definitely made to be compact, so it’s really useful for smaller turkeys, chickens, ribs, brisket, and fish that you might bring on a camping trip or for small family gatherings.

You can easily carry this unit and set it anywhere. It has a heating element that delivers 1400-watt power and smokes all kinds of delicious meats in a matter of hours. There are three basic settings included with this smoker, including high, medium, and low. You can view the current temperature on the front door and make changes as needed.

What We Liked

If you want something compact that gets the job done, the Masterbuilt 20073716 is just that type of smoker. It’s made to be efficient, easy to move, and quite large inside. It uses porcelain and steel to provide a high-quality heating surface.

This little smoker only holds about 12 to 17 pounds of meat, depending on the type. It can fit a whole chicken, duck, or small turkey. This is actually one of the benefits because the budget-friendly cost. If you only want a smoker for your poultry and ribs, this gets the job done quickly and accurately.

What We Don’t Like

Our result was smoked decently, but we found that it only got up to 225 degrees. It also took longer to smoke anything on the top rack, so we had to remove it and use only the bottom rack. If you want something simple and easy to use, this smoker is definitely worth it. However, it won’t hold a lot of meat at one time for larger gatherings or bigger barbecue parties.

Masterbuilt 20070210 30-Inch Black Electric Analog Smoker

We also wanted to include the Masterbuilt 20070210 in the compact electric smokers’ section because it is quite easy to move around and fun to use. The Masterbuilt analog smoker is quite small but it still has a pretty large cooking space of 548 square inches. You can easily fit all kinds of food in this smoker, and it’s still highly mobile.

With a high-powered heating element and easy-to-use controls, you can change up the temperature using the dial and analog display on the outside of the unit. It comes with 1500 watts of power and can heat up to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Masterbuilt electric analog smoker also has a water and grease tray that catches all the dripping oils and fat. This can easily be removed and cleaned.

The best part about this compact smoker is that you can monitor the temperature on the outside without ever opening the door.

What We Liked

With some compact smokers, you don’t get the same heat as the Masterbuilt 20070210 gets with 1500 watts. You can smoke whole turkeys, ribs, sausages, chicken, fish, and more in this smoker, and it comes out perfectly.

Despite being smaller than some of the other smokers on this list, the Char Broil electric smoker is actually a bit big for the compact class. You can spread meat over three different racks with 548 square inches of space. The racks are easy to remove if you need to clean them or want to make space for larger turkeys.

While this smoker is very different from the digital models we reviewed, we found that it smoked our turkey beautifully. It was juicy and cooked in just a couple of hours.

What We Don’t Like

The Masterbuilt 20070210 is not as convenient as some of the other digital smokers we reviewed, but that’s not really one of the features of analog compact smokers. While this unit is a bit heavier than some of the smaller smokers, you can maneuver it on wheels, and it’s also easier to carry due to its lightweight build.

Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker with Char-Broil Performance Smoker Cover, Kettle Grill

Sometimes you just want something that works and gets the job done. That’s how we felt about the Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker. There is nothing fancy about this smoker, but it has straightforward functionality, which makes the Char Broil smoker easy to use. The whole point is to set it and forget it with these electric smokers anyway.

This is an older design with an analog thermometer, insulated cooking space, big wood chip box, and a water pan at the bottom of the smoker. Three chrome-plated racks are included, and you can remove the grates when you need more space or add a fourth rack if you opt for the add-on.

This smoker has a lot of heat for its size. It provides straightforward operation with consistently smoked results. It also comes with a one-year warranty for all parts and labor. You won’t find that with most electric smokers.

What We Liked

This is a compact smoker that delivers on heat. It has an industrial build made from high-quality steel. We know that it will last for decades, so you can have a smoker passed down in your family if you want. It also has a cook space of 544 square inches, which means you can cook whole turkeys, chickens, ribs, and more.

The wood chip box is also pretty large, which we like in comparison to the small wood chip boxes on some of the Masterbuilt models. You can stuff in all the wood chips you need at first, so you don’t have to open the door with this Char Broil smoker model.

You can read the internal temperature gauge easily as it’s analog and mounted right on the front door. While this Char Broil electric smoker only a 1200-watt, you’ll get plenty of heat with this smoker. There’s really no way to mess up smoking meats using the guide that comes with this smoker as well. You can see how long it takes to cook all kinds of poultry, fish, beef, and more.

What We Don’t Like

One of the main drawbacks with this unit is that assembly is required, and it does take some time to put together. There are about 16 screws that need to be mounted, so you definitely want to set aside some time to put it together. There are also no bells and whistles with this model, so what you see is what you get.

Some customers also had complaints that this smoker does not always heat up quickly, especially when there are colder temperatures outside.

Cuisinart COS-330 Electric Smoker, 30″

Yes, Cuisinart also makes an electric smoker in addition to all of the other home appliances and cookware. This 30-inch electric smoker is definitely compact and portable, but it weighs more than the Masterbuilt and Char-Broil compact electric smoker models. In fact, it weighs nearly 52 pounds.

However, this Cuisinart smoker offers 584 square inches of cooking space. It comes with a 1500-watt heating element that allows you to heat up to 400 degrees. This is by far one of the highest heat capacities available for electric compact smokers.

There are three cooking racks included, a water pan, drop pan, wood chip box, and full power unit. There is some assembly required but it’s not as difficult as the Char-Broil. This Cuisinart electric smoker is designed to be extremely simple, so you just set the temperature, load up the meat and then let it cook.

What We Liked

If you want to stay under a certain budget, the Cuisinart smoker is a great pick for a low-cost smoker. It has a solid build with thick ¾” insulation. That’s partially why it’s a little bit heavier than some of the other compact smokers on this list.

The wood chip box is quite large, so you won’t have to refill or add to it as the cook is happening. You can simply load in all of the chips from the beginning and set the timer. You can also use 10 inches of space above the top rack for larger turkeys, chickens, pork shoulders, and ribs. There are no options for hooks, however.

The dial control is a little bit old school, but this is a no-fuss, budget-friendly unit. The temperature control is not analog but old school. You also have to let it run for about 10 minutes to let the temperature build and check the thermometers to ensure that it’s ready before placing your meat inside.

We still found that our meat was cooked evenly and maintained all of the smokey flavor from the mesquite BBQ chips we used. We liked the taste and believe this is the perfect smoker for small barbecue gatherings on the go.

What We Don’t Like

This is truly one of the more basic units, so the main convenience is that it will smoke everything for you at the temperature you select. The timer and everything else are up to you, so you have to be a little bit careful when using this electric smoker.

What Brand Makes The Best Smoker?

There are dozens of brands out there all vying for the top spot in the electric smoker market. We have reviewed hundreds of smokers to find the best brands to go with based on their quality smokers, reliability, features, cost, and warranty. In our experience, the following brands offer the most to barbecue lovers who want to smoke the simple way.

Masterbuilt Electric Smoker

When you look at Masterbuilt electric smokers, they have the perfect ratio of size and come with the most features. It’s the only smoker to have a truly usable smart app for your phones too. While others smoker brands are still using remote controls or analog controls, Masterbuilt has gone above and beyond to match the current digital lifestyles of cooks.

We recommend the Masterbuilt 20072115 Bluetooth Smart Digital Electric Smoker because it’s incredibly powerful, easy to use, and delivers a delicious smoked bird in no time at all. Plus, you simply have to check your phone to get alerts when your smoked meats are ready. How convenient is that!

Smokin It

Smokin’ It has been the rising electric smoker brand for some time now. The brand offers solid, high-quality smokers with tough builds that are reliable and easy-to-use. Customers love their smokers and state that they last for many years. In our reviews, we found that their products were made from high-quality materials and included over 800 square inches of cooking space to fit any type of meat you want to smoke.

Our favorite product is the Smokin-It Model #1 Electric Smoker. This is truly their best smoker in the lineup, and it consistently receives 5-star ratings for its accurate smoke and ease of use. While it’s not as digital as Masterbuilt, it’s still one of the better electric smokers on the market.

Dyna-Glo Electric Smoker

For many years, Dyna-Glo owned the smoker market. They made the best electric smokers alongside Masterbuilt. With their latest lineup, we see a trend with these smokers. Dyna-Go has gone digital and creates an electric smoker that is nearly identical in quality as to Masterbuilt. Their smokers have a tad larger cooking spaces inside, but it’s the two-door design that truly makes Dyna-Glo stand out.

We recommend the Dyna-Glo DGU951SDE-D Two Door Digital Bluetooth Smoker because it only takes minutes to setup and get to smoking. You don’t have to spend hours assembling this smoker, and once you get it out of the box, you can add meat and control everything from the Bluetooth app. Some customers reported issues with the Bluetooth controls that we hope Dyna-Glo can fix with their latest app release.

Char-Broil Electric Smoker

Char-Broil has been around for years, always delivering a solid smoker with high heat, straightforward controls, and insulated high-quality construction. Most customers love their Char-Broil because it’s so easy to use and offers a decent amount of cooking space. While most customers like this brand, we found that it took quite a bit of assembly to put together this smoker, but it is very affordable and easy to maintain once you get all the pieces in place.

We recommend the Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker because it comes with a performance cover and kettle grill. While this is a straightforward, old school electric smoker, you don’t really need much to smoke meat in this electric smoker.

Cuisinart Electric Smoker

Cuisinart offers every kind of appliance, including a convenient electric smoker. Since smoking meats isn’t really the focus of this brand, it’s clear to see that they wanted to create a straightforward, old school smoker that was reliable and had an above average heating element. This produces a pretty decent smoker for a small home.

Their 30-inch Cuisinart COS-3330 electric smoker gets the job done. It’s an incredible value to have a smoker like this, but we aren’t sure how long it will last in comparison to some of the other brands.

Final Verdict

When it comes to picking a smoker, you really have to know what you want. We value the smoke quality, convenience, and ease of use the most. When it comes to those features, we have found the perfect electric smoker.

The Masterbuilt 20072115 Bluetooth Smart Digital Electric Smoker, 30-inch model offers the most bang for your buck. It’s absolutely the most convenient and easiest of all models to use due to the large cooking space and temperature controls via the smartphone app. We couldn’t believe how easy it was to truly “set it and forget it” until we tasted the fruits of our non-labor. It was extremely delicious and required very little effort on our part, which is exactly what you want from a smoker.

Best Type Of Smoker

Before signing off, we wanted to take a look at electric smokers and how these units compare to some of the traditional smokers. Is the old school way any better than using electric? Some purists have said so, but we have compared the flavors and features to find out which smoker is truly the best one to use for any occasion.

Electric Smoker

After reviewing hundreds of electric smokers and reading through customer reviews, the main benefit of these smokers is the convenience. They are extremely easy to use, so even if you don’t have experience grilling or smoking meats, you can cook the perfect rack of ribs, smoked turkey, chicken, or pork shoulder with ease.

These units are typically long and rectangular in design with a glass pane or solid door. There will be a wood chip loading box at the bottom of the smoker or there may be a unique wood chip loading system so that you don’t have to open the door, which is ideal.

Electric smokers are made to sit in the corner, cook meat, and make it simple for the chef. With a typical wattage between 900 and 1500 watts, most smokers can achieve 275 degrees Fahrenheit or higher to smoke all kinds of meat. They are also made with large interiors with up to 900 square inches of space in some cases and four racks to separate meat and vegetables.

Pellet Smoker

A wood fire pellet grill is another electric type of grill that allows you to maintain precise heat control. You can smoke a variety of meat and vegetables in a matter of minutes with these convenient grills. Wood pellet grills are generally faster than most other grills since they pre-heat quickly.

These grills have a horizontal, two-rack design with charcoal placed underneath the bottom rack. The automated electric feed systems ensure that the right temperature is maintained throughout the smoke.

If you love working with a flame, these smokers are definitely fun. You can monitor the temperature and evenly cook meat over the flame. You can also place soaked wood chips hardwood chunks on a heat diffuser plate to achieve an even richer, smokier flavor.

Propane Smoker

For those on a budget and who like flavorful smoked meat, a propane smoker may be your best bet. You have probably seen these smokers before as they have been around for ages. Propane smokers provide hours of even heat while burning clean and odorless, unlike charcoal grills.

These propane smokers come in all shapes and sizes. You can find some are horizontal with the tank below, while others look just like an electric smoker. At the bottom is the gas burner connected to the tank, or it could also connect to a natural gas line. Above the burner is a tray or pan for smoking chips, wood chunks, or sawdust, depending on what you want to use.

The propane smoker is a good alternative to electric smokers because it’s portable, and you don’t need to plug it in for it to work properly. You can simply use a propane gas tank to get it started, and some purists will tell you that propane smokers create a better flavor than electric smokers.

Charcoal Smoker

If you love the taste of tender, juicy, smoked meat, then charcoal smokers may be the best way to get the flavors you so desire. Purists will tell you that charcoal delivers the most flavorful meats, and there’s a reason for that. The charcoal emits a smoke from your wood chips that you won’t get with the electric smoker. The heat is just simply better with charcoal.

Charcoal smokers also can be used when you don’t have any access to electricity. You can simply buy inexpensive charcoal to get your smoker lit and ready for your meat. Most smokers have a large capacity, and there are a variety of types. For example, water charcoal smokers have a unique design that lets you cook the meat below 300 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours. This type of heat delivers the most tender results.
